Deacons

Chairman: Deacon Silas Wright

The word deacon is derived from the Greek word diakonos which literally means servant. Therefore, the board of deacons is organized to meet the needs of the church of which it is a part. This includes spiritual and temporal needs of members and non-members alike. Every member of the fellowship should be promptly assigned to a deacon who serves as liaison between the church and that member.  The deacon also serves as a liaison between that member and the church. Deacons ensure that the sanctuary and classrooms are cleaned.  This also includes maintaining the church grounds.

  • Welcome Visitors -identify and welcome visitors; provide assistance if needed; give visitor’s card to first-time visitors; provide refreshment and information about church to first-time visitors after service
  • Hospital visits and Bereavement - show Christian love to members by visiting, sending plants, cards, fruit baskets or providing meals during times of hospitalization or bereavement.
  • Special Events - coordinate and/or prepare food for special church functions, such as our church picnic, Night of Elegance ball, and fellowship dinners.
  • The Hospitality Ministry embraces 1 Peter 4:8-10.

Usher

Leaders: Deborah Williams & Lynne Johnson

Ushers strive to see that the services flow smoothly and orderly, thus heightening the mood to receive God’s Word.  We serve by directing the traffic flow, seating people, handing out fans, flyers, and offering envelopes and making sure the sanctuary is trash-free before leaving. We also give support to the minister during the altar service.  “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness” (Psalm 84:10).

Children’s

Leaders: Elder Rhudine Washington & Degwanda Smalls

The spiritual growth of our children is   promoted by presenting the Word of God   through age-appropriate lessons.   Elementary age children have their own   Sunday church service.  They function in   the various roles associated with worship   service and listen to a message that   emphasizes core values such as salvation,   having faith and living a Christian life.   Younger children participate in a less   formal setting. Teachers use storytelling, puppets,  songs and crafts to explain Bible truths.

Youth (G.T.S)
